What Hardwood Does Well

Hardwood is real wood all the way through the top layer, so it feels solid underfoot, ages well and can be sanded and refinished when it shows wear. It suits living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and hallways, and it's the floor buyers in Toronto look for first.

Solid hardwood nails down over a plywood subfloor and can be refinished many times. Over concrete or radiant heat, engineered hardwood is the better choice. Either way, the install is what makes it last: a flat subfloor, the right expansion gap and boards that have acclimated to your home. For planning numbers, see our hardwood flooring cost guide.

Our Approach

How a hardwood job runs, from measure to walkthrough.

Consultation

Step 1

We book a visit at a time that suits you, measure the rooms and check the subfloor for flatness and squeaks. You tell us the look you want and your timing.

Select Material

Step 2

We go through species, plank widths, finishes and patterns with you, and how each one will look in your light and with your trim.

Select a Date

Step 3

With the rooms measured and the floor chosen, we send a written, itemized estimate and pick a start date together.

Initiation

Step 4

The floor is delivered to acclimate, the old floor comes up, the subfloor is prepared and the hardwood goes down, finished with transitions and trim.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does hardwood installation cost in Toronto?

As a 2026 planning range, installed hardwood runs about $8–18 per sq ft for a straight lay, plus $1–3 per sq ft if the subfloor needs levelling. Herringbone adds 30–50% to labour. We confirm your exact price in writing after measuring. The cost guide breaks it down.

Can you install hardwood over concrete?

Engineered hardwood can be glued down or floated over concrete, which is why it's the standard in Toronto condos. Solid hardwood needs a plywood subfloor to nail into.

Do you install herringbone and chevron?

Yes. Pattern floors are laid out from the room's main sightline and glued down, and they need 10–15% extra material for waste instead of the usual 5–7%.

How long will the install take?

About a day for a single room and two to five working days for 600–1,000 sq ft, plus acclimation and any subfloor levelling.

Will you install hardwood I bought myself?

Yes, after we've looked at it. We'll check that it suits your subfloor and rooms before installation day.
